Construction Site

Supporting our
Mental Health

The Construction Industry has one of the highest rates of suicides in New Zealand

Mental health issues and suicides hugely impact the construction sector, and it is urgent that we take action.

Behind the dire statistics are lives. Lives lost, whānau, families and communities destroyed, and children devastated. We all have a responsibility to act and do something meaningful to help support men’s mental health, to help them begin to heal, ultimately to save lives and build a safer community.

We need your support to make this happen...

It is really important that as employers we have robust health and safety processes in place, to support a safe and supportive work environment. We want to ensure construction workers are supported in this area to talk about their mental health and to get help when they need it, also this helps their families and our communities stay safe.

Traditionally men find it very hard to ask for help and the vast majority of construction industry are male. Through this initiative, we are aiming to engage with our workers and construction partners on the importance of their mental health, and to encourage them to access the counselling group sessions. This will help individuals voice their experiences, challenges and ultimately provide them with a safe space to ask for help. We need your support to make this happen.

This programme will be launched through the Du Val Foundation, in partnership with iConnect with some initial seed money from Du Val Group. The Du Val team are seeking additional donations of $5,000 to $20,000+ from our key suppliers and contacts within the construction industry to enable this service to reach all those who need it.

Our aim is to be able to offer this free service to all men in the construction sector, nationwide, regardless of who they work for. Your generous support will enable workers in the construction sector to seek and receive the counselling they need to better support their mental health and wellbeing. With your support, together we can help turn around the devastating statistics of suicide, depression and other mental health issues, that are so prevalent in the construction industry.

Sponsorship package:

• Your own workers on Du Val sites will be able to access the group counselling sessions and one on one support free of charge
